A part of New York City Craft Beer Week, Hop Pursuit runs from Saturday, September 25th, through Friday, October 1st.  Here are some details:

• Two person teams register and receive their task lists at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, at RATTLE N HUM BAR (or, in the alternative, teams can wait until 7:00 PM the same day to receive the task list at www.BeerNationShow.com).
• Teams win points if they successfully complete assigned tasks.
• Running point tallies occur along with late registration on (1) Monday, September 27, at PACIFIC STANDARD and (2) Wednesday, September 29, at BARCADE.  Point leaders at each tally win prizes!
• The race ends on Friday, October 1st, at 9:00 PM.  Aggregate point leaders win SWEET PRIZES!
• $5 per person fee and digital camera required.

This is the first Beer Nation drinking game and I would love to hear how many of you could actually get your hands on all of these brews.

• When a winner pulls out a prepared speech, drink a beer from Speakeasy Brewery
• When a winner thanks God, drink a beer from Holy Brew in Leesburg, Virginia
• When a presenter stumbles over a name, take a drink from any Dogfish Head brew (the presenter has probably been drinking one of Sam Calagione’s high ABV beers as well)

• If Alec Baldwin mentions 30 Rock, drink anything from Rock Bottom Brewery
• If he mentions Hunt for Red October, then you’ll have to dig deep into the back of the fridge to find the last remaining Oktoberfest
• And if he mentions his sweaty balls then grab the beer of the person next to you and drink that

• When the band attempts to play a winner off the stage, take a drink of water.
• When the band succeeds, drink one of the Zappa Series beers from Lagunitas (you’ll probably have to go down to the cellar and pull up the bottle of Reuben and the Jets that you’ve been saving)
• When the band attempts to play James Cameron off the stage, drink anything from Blue Point Brewery or the Bar Harbor True Blue Ale (I had to throw in some blue related beers in honor of the Navi)

The dream team of brewing is coming to New York!  At this past weekend’s Extreme Beer Festival, Vinny Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Brewery announced their collaboration with two famous Italian brewers – Leonardo Di Vincenzo of Birra del Borgo and Teo Musso of Birrificio Le Baladin – in the opening of a new brewpub on the roof of an upcoming artisan food market in New York cleverly called Eataly (Sam compares it to a Whole Foods on steroids). 

The brewpub – officially called Eataly Brewery – will feature two year-round collaboration brews created by all four all-star brewers, as well as occasional one-off brews created by one of the four dream team members.

If the prospect of four of the world’s greatest brewers coming together to serve you beer isn’t enough to get you going, perhaps you’ll be more impressed by the fact that Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich will be developing the menu at the brewpub.  Admit it . . . you’re smitten.

Eataly Brewery is slated to open this summer, and there’s a very real chance I’m going to be drunk dialing the unopened brewpub in the months to come, trying to secure a reservation.  But, seriously, this type of collaboration is exactly what we’ve been preaching at Beer Nation.  Now, if they could just get the Beatles to be the house band . . .
